We are a group of researchers and journalists. Our names are:

  • Becca Monteleone

  • Amy Silverman

  • Beena Raghavendran

We are doing a project about how people with disabilities get their news. We are asking people:

  • Where they get their news,

  • What stories they are interested in,

  • Problems they have getting the news,

  • Ideas for making it easier to read the news.

If you decide to talk to us, we will meet in a group of 5-10 people. We will talk for one to two hours.

We might meet in person or on video chat like Zoom.

You can say NO to taking part. You will not be in any trouble if you don’t want to take part. If you say yes, but later decide you don’t want to talk anymore, you can stop at any time.

If you say yes and you are your own guardian, you will need to sign a paper.

If you say yes, but you have a guardian, your guardian will also need to agree.

Information like your name, where you live, and what you look like will stay private. Only our team will know who you are.

What you tell us might be published in writing or in a presentation. We will not share your name or private info.

You will get a $25 gift card for talking to us.

One possible risk is loss of confidentiality. That means someone might find out who you are. But we are doing what we can to make sure your information stays private.

There are no other foreseeable risks to you. That means we don’t think anything bad will happen during the interview.

After the interview, we will send you updates about the project. You will be able to give us feedback. This means you can tell us if the results make sense. You can also tell us if you want to add anything else.

If you want to be part of the project or have questions, you can:

If you have a problem or think something bad happened to you during the research:

  • Call the Human Research Protection Program on the main campus at (419) 530-6167

  • Email the UToledo Office of Research Integrity at ResearchIntegrity@UToledo.edu

Thank you!
